What’s the go with Facebook?

Facebook is being hailed as the “next big thing” when it comes to online advertising.  Whilst Google AdWords is by far the biggest player in the online advertising space, Facebook is viewed as having the greatest growth potential in the short to medium future. Why? 500 million+ users worldwide, that’s why?

Having said that, it’s not as simple as just shifting your ad spend, throwing up a couple of ads and away you go. The dynamics of Facebook advertising is vastly different from the clearer cut rules of Search Engine Marketing.

Broadly, advertising on Facebook is finding a way to market to your audience so that it becomes their idea to buy your product or service.

How do you do that?

Our belief is that Facebook is much more than a way for people to stay in touch with family and friends. It’s a virtual community that plays on a fundamental human insecurity; that everyone wants to be liked. For many people and/or companies, they embark on a deliberate programme of acquiring as many friends as possible. There are a variety of reasons, mostly around validation and ego, but we like to look at a slightly different aspect – affinity.

Affinity and Facebook is about identifying that group of individuals and groups who are aligned with you in some way; be it hobbies and interests, music, politics, whatever. The great thing about affinity groups is that they are easy to engage, to have a continuing conversation with, and they will support your efforts because they believe in the same things.

So when you are advertising on Facebook, you want to identify and reach your affinity group, engage them in an ongoing conversation, and convert them into supporters of your efforts.

The by-product of this is that they will buy your product or service, tell you about it, there friends will find out about it then engage with you, be converted, support your efforts, and so on.

And how you do that for the Tourism Industry; well, that’s the service we offer.
